This report describes an investigation into measurement of
direct discomfort glare indices by using a CCD camera, frame grabber
board and a computer.
Assessment of glare indices with standard spot luminance meter is
time-consuming and stressful, since they allow only one reading at a time.
This report is concerned with development of a new measurement system.
Calibration and configuration of the hardware and software of the system will be discussed.
The measurement system essentially comprises of a CCD camera with
lens and correction filters for acquiring luminance information
from the scene. Personal Computer with image capture board is
use for storing and analyzing of the data. The block diagram
and components of the glare measurement system is given on the
figure below.
The analogue signal from the camera is captured and converted to
an 8 bit digital image by the image capture board. The digital data obtained
is interpreted by image analysis algorithms to give luminance values
and hens the glare rating of the captured scene.
MATLAB(R) image processing toolbox was used to write the
image analysis source code.
